| - Introduce the principles of mineral optics, nature of light and the polarizing microscope.
- Enable the student to prepare microscopic thin sections and to use the polarizing microscope in the identification of the different minerals.
- Use the principles of idetification of mineral hand specimens.
- Acquire the student skills to the main mineral groups.
