2- Course aims :-

Introduce the main principles of the stratigraphy.
Study the sequences of tansgressive and regressive patterns and sedimentary cycles.
Enable the students to use different rules of correlation.
Outline the basic information of the main stratigraphic units (litho., allo., bio.,.pedo., chrono. and geochronologic units).
Acquire the students some ideas on the geologic time scale
Study the characteristic fossils for each of he geologic time scale.
Study the morphology of the microfossils, microstructure and mineralogical components.
Introduce the principles of Classifying the microfossils, their origin and systematic affinities.
Use the basic fossil roles in the oil exploration, their stratigraphic importance and their application in the industry.

6	The geologic time scale, division of Archean and Proterozoic Eons and their fossil record.
7	Division of Paleozoic and Mesozoic Era and their characteriztic fossils.
8	Division of Cenozoic Era and their characteriztic fossils.
9	Introduction of microfossils, collection and preperation.
10	Conodonts and Diatoms.
11	Radiolaria, Ostracoda and Nannofossils.

5- Teaching and learning methods :-

	Lectures using data show,white board, overhead projector, computers and internet.
	Discussion sessions and class activity.
	Searching for the previous topics in the web sites.es with some field exercises.
	Short seminars with discussion of the problems wihin the class.
	Practical classes in Labs using the binocular stereomicroscope, figures , diagrams, charts, thin sections and microfossil slid
