2- Course aims :-
  1. Study the preservation and occurrence of plant fossils.
  2. Acquire the students skills of the system of classification to fully understand relationships between living and fossil organisms.
  3. Introduce the principles of biostratigraphic study that led to the development of the relative geologic time scale and as an important tool in stratigraphic correlation.
  4. Outline the basic information of palaeoecology and palaeobiogeography.
  5. Use the principles of paleobotany as a tool for exploration for Earth resources, especially diatomites, iron ore formations of the Precambrian and hydrocarbons.
