2- Course aims :-
  1. Introduce the basic information of natural products about different classes, nomenclature, biosynthesis, physiological and medicinal importance.
  2. Study the general methods used for structure elucidation of natural products and giving some representative examples.
  3. Acquiring the student the basic information of physical organic chemistry.
  4. Acquiring the student the skills of isolation and synthesizing of some natural products and organic compounds.

2 · Biosynthetic pathways (shikimic, mevalonic, acetate) of natural products.
3 · Terpenoids (definition, isoprene rule, exceptions of special isoprene rule, isolation, classification, methods of structure elucidation, examples for different terpenes)
4 · Terpenoids (structure elucidation and synthesis of selected terpenoids)
5 · Steroids (classes, stereochemistry, structure elucidation of selected steroids, sex hormones, adrenocortical hormones, hormone precursors)
6 · Alkaloids (introduction, classification, isolation, structure elucidation of selected alkaloids)
7 · Shikimates (C6-C1, C6-C2, C6-C3, compounds containing shikimate ring, structure elucidation of some flavonoids)
