  1. Understand the ability of insects to inhabit different habitats.
  2. Acquire an understanding of the behavior of insects under different conditions.
  3. Knowing the different steps of metamorphosis.
  4. Be aware of reproduction and embryogenesis.

1Insect ecology: Introduction and environmental components. Soil habitat, adaptation of subterranean insects. Desert habitat.
2High-Altitude habitat. Aquatic habitat. Insects and vascular plants, evolutionary origin of insects as pollinators, behavior of flower-visiting insects, mutual adaptations of flowers and their insect visitors.
3Apoidea as flower visitors, Diptera and Lepidoptera as flower visitors, Coleoptera as flower visitors. Orchids and Hymenoptera, Figs and Fig wasps.
4Insect behavior: Definition of behavior, with some examples. Hereditary aptitudes, formation of common organ in performance, the occurrence of stimulus.
5External stimuli (change in climatic conditions, the changes in bionomes). Innate stimuli (chemical changes, mechanical changes). The participation organs in performing a behavioral action: receptors (external and internal receptors).
6Kinds of animal behavior (simple and complex behavior). Instinctive and acquired behavior (action of instinctive part, action of acquired part, action where acquiring has no part).
7Learning (habituation, conditioning, trial and error, land marking, insight learning). Communication in social insect (ants, bees).
8Insect embryology: Reproductive system and gametogensis. Male and female reproductive systems.
9Spermatogenesis and oogensis. Seminal transfer, fertilization. Sex determination.
10Pre-eclosion, formation of blastoderm and germ band. Formation of extra-embryonic membranes.
11Differentiation of germ layers. Segmentation, appendages formation and blastokinesis. Organogenesis.
12Metamorphosis: Condition of metamorphosis. Definition of terms.
13Types of metamorphosis. Life cycle durations.
14Metamorphic events (Morphological changes, anatomical changes, behavioral changes). Types of insect larvae.
15Types of insect pupae. Ecdysis. Molting.
