  1. Identify the external morphology of different parts of insect body
  2. Know where to fix insect and how to preserve them
  3. Know how to classify the different orders of class Insecta

1Comparative morphology: Cephalic Region. (cephalization, head capsule, function and functional adaptation of head capsule, tentorium)
2Cephalic Appendages: ( structure and types of antennae, structure and types of mouth parts). The neck region (the cervix)
3The thoracic region. Prothorax, mesothorax, metathorax
4Thoracic appendages: (structure and types of legs, structure and types of wings, wing venation, wing coupling). The abdominal region and its appendages.
5Insect Collection and Preservation: Where to look for insects
6Different collecting equipments: Aerial nets, sweeping nets, beating nets, water nets, aspirator, New jersey light traps, sticky traps, sifters Berles funnel, pitfall traps.
7Killing Jars (cyanide jars, ethyl acetate jars) Relaxing jars
8Storage of Insects: Direct pinning, double mounts, mounting on spreading boards, labeling, storage in storing box.
9Permanent whole mount preparation (maceration, washing, dehydration, dealcoholization, mounting using cover slip)
10Paraffin processing of tissue blocks: (dissection, fixation, post fixation treatment, initial dehydration, dealcoholization, infiltration, embedding, trimming, attachment, sectioning).
